Fireplace Insert's Internal Safety Features

Fireplace inserts have two safeguards to prevent an electrical fire. First, there is a thermostat limiter that will automatically shut off when the temperature inside the insert case reaches 221 degrees Fahrenheit. The second level is a fuse. Essentially, this will burn out when the fuse wire reaches 363 degrees Fahrenheit; at this point, the fireplace insert is toast and would need to be replaced. 

Equally important to the safeguards themselves is understanding what causes them to be activated.

1. A malfunction occurs within the unit itself. 
2. The fireplace is plugged in incorrectly. Per the safety instructions, the fireplace must be plugged directly into the wall and not share an outlet with any other item.
